Decision support

Second opinions before the plane ticket

A second opinion can be useful even if you ultimately stay home. Keep the diagnostic question separate from the travel decision.

What a useful second opinion should clarify

  • What diagnosis or problem is being addressed?
  • What reasonable treatment alternatives exist?
  • What additional records, imaging or tests are actually needed?
  • What would change the recommended plan?
  • What can be handled remotely and what requires in-person evaluation?

Do not let travel pressure the diagnosis

Flights, deposits and schedules should come after the clinical question is clear enough to justify travel.
